Alex&Cristina - Wedding at Island Ischia, Italy

Getting married at the beautiful, breathtaking Island Ischia, in the small fishing village Sant’Angalo.

Last October I got to capture the beautiful wedding of Cristina & Alex. A wedding on a unique location in sunny Italy and a place that suited this couple perfectly. Alex is half Italian and half Dutch, Cristina originally comes from Moldavia. The wedding took place on the Italian island Ischia, it’s where Alex’ family comes from and where his parents fell in love too. Now, years later Alex is going to marry the love of his life on the same island. I would love to show you their story through my eyes. Prepare for a dream wedding in a breathtaking setting.

A foreign wedding

For this wedding I flew to Napels, where a boat took me to the island followed by a small taxi to Sant’Angelo. Which is a car free town on top of a mountain. So, when the taxi dropped me off, I didn’t expect a hike on the mountain with my heavy camera bag and suitcase. Not to mention the heat. But when I finally made it to the top, the breathtaking view from my hotel over the bay was totally worth the climb. Before heading to welcome drinks with the wedding guests later on, I got enough time to enjoy the small beach and do some sightseeing in the village. The evening was wonderful. A beautiful sunset, sweet and caring people and delicious food! I took off a bit early, because tomorrow is the big day!

The moment had arrived! The big day where Cristina and Alex had been waiting for. When I arrived at the stunning wedding location Hotel Miramara the last things were arranged. Flowers are being moved, chairs set up and of course the bride had to get ready. Meanwhile her two best friends arrived too, a little nervous for their speech during the ceremony. But none of that mattered. Today was going to be wonderful, despite all the nerves! Cristina got into her wedding dress, carefully helped by her two best friends. Everything had to be perfect. While the bride was getting ready for her big moment, I looked outside. What a breathtaking view!

Before the ceremony began, we did the ‘first look’ on the balcony. The love and happiness between these two is magnificent! After the shoot in the small fishing village it’s time for the big moment!

The mother of the groom gives away her son proudly, Cristina and her father also walk towards the isle. This picture: the setting, the view, the people, I am so thankful to be a part of this. Two good friends of the couple led the ceremony and they were the best! Filled with humor, emotion and beautiful speeches from family and friends. Even more special on this day is the presence of Cristina’s grandma, before the wedding she had never flown before! After their loving vows it was time for drinks. Confetti and rice were thrown at the newlyweds, which was quite a challenge for Christina’s friends to get out of her hair afterwards.

After the ceremony a large table with delicious bites for all the guests awaits. Everyone is enjoying themselves and there is even a little spontaneous party with two local musicians. During dinner Cristina’s parents and grandma gave their speech, hilariously translated by Cristina’s brother. The food was amazing, and everyone is having a great time. After dinner Alex had prepared a touching speech for his beloved Cristina. And then: Party-time! After a few hours I went back to my hotel, but I got to enjoy the music from my balcony and I sawthe lights sparkling at the bay. What a beautiful day!

Trouwen op het adembenemende mooie eiland Ischia in Italië, in het kleine vissersdorp Sant’Angelo

Afgelopen oktober mocht ik de prachtige bruiloft van Cristina & Alex vastleggen. Een bruiloft op een unieke plek in het zonnige Italië en een plek die perfect paste bij dit stel. Alex is half Italiaans en half Nederlands, Cristina komt oorspronkelijk uit Moldovië. De bruiloft vond plaats op het Italiaanse eiland Ischia, Alex familie komt hier vandaan en zijn ouders werden verliefd op dit eiland. Nu, jaren later beloofde Alex hier zijn Cristina eeuwige trouw. Ik wil je graag meenemen in hun verhaal, maar dan door mijn ogen. Bereid je voor op een droombruiloft in een adembenemend mooie setting.

Trouwen in het buitenland

Voor deze bruiloft vlieg ik naar Napels, waar ik met de boot naar het eiland ga en vervolgens met een kleine taxi naar Sant Angelo. Ik stond wel een beetje raar te kijken toen ik onderaan de berg werd afgezet. Sant Angelo is autoloos en dus moest ik met mijn zware cameratas en koffer door de warmte de berg trotseren. Eenmaal boven bleek het uitzicht over de baai vanaf mijn hotel de klim dubbel en dwars waard! ’s Avonds zou de welkomsborrel pas zijn en dus had ik nog genoeg tijd om even te genieten op het strandje en het dorp te verkennen. De avond zelf was fijn! Een prachtige zonsondergang, lieve mensen en heerlijke hapjes. Wel op tijd naar bed, want morgen is de grote dag!

Het moment was daar! De grote dag waar Cristina en Alex al maanden naar uit hebben gekeken. Ik kwam al vroeg aan en zag hoe iedereen druk in de weer was. Bloemen werden versleept, stoelen klaargezet en natuurlijk moest de bruid in de make-up! Ondertussen waren de twee beste vriendinnen van de bruid ook gearriveerd, nerveus voor hun speech tijdens de ceremonie. Maar dat mocht de pret allemaal niet drukken. Vandaag wordt er genoten, ondanks alle zenuwen! Als Cristina haar jurk aantrekt wordt ze met veel liefde geholpen door haar vriendinnen. Alles moet perfect zijn! Terwijl de bruid zich opmaakt voor haar moment, kijk ik even uit het raam. Wat een adembenemend uitzicht!

Voordat de ceremonie begint is het tijd voor de ‘first look’ op het balkon. Deze twee stralen zoveel liefde en geluk uit, fantastisch om te zien! Na de shoot in het vissersdorpje is het tijd voor het grote moment..

De moeder van de bruidegom brengt haar zoon vol trots naar voren en Cristina wordt door haar vader weggegeven. Het totaalplaatje: de setting, het uitzicht, de mensen, wat onwijs gaaf dat ik hier bij mag zijn. De ceremonie wordt geleid door twee goede vrienden van het stel en ze doen het fantastisch! Met veel humor, emotie en prachtige speeches van familie en vrienden tussendoor. Extra bijzonder is de aanwezigheid van Cristina’s oma, ze had hiervoor nog nooit gevlogen! En na de liefdevolle en persoonlijke geloftes is het tijd voor de borrel. Er wordt met confetti en rijst gestrooid om het huwelijk te vieren – wat de vriendinnen van Cristina vervolgens weer uit haar haar proberen te halen.

Na de ceremonie staat er een grote tafel met heerlijke hapjes klaar voor de gasten. Er ontstaat een spontaan feestje met de twee lokale muzikanten. Iedereen geniet intens en gaat helemaal los. Tijd voor het diner, tussen de gangen door geven de ouders en oma van Cristina een speech die hilarisch vertaald wordt door haar broer. Iedereen geniet van het heerlijke eten. Na het diner geeft Alex nog een prachtige speech waarin hij nogmaals zijn liefde aan zijn Cristina verklaart. En dan: tijd voor feest! Na een paar uur verlaat ik het feest, maar kan vanaf mijn balkon meegenieten van de muziek en de lichtjes die fonkelen in de baai. Wat een prachtige dag!
